Pre-Colombian Time

We have got a task to write about the indigenous people in Australia , New Zealand or America . Indigenous people are the people who have lived in a country or continent as the first human beings in this area.
I have chosen the indigenous people of North- America as my topic. This task was a natural choice for me, because it interested both me and my father. Special interested is my father in the native peoples culture, how they were treated by the European occupants, their philosophy and their way to think about nature and landownership. The most known name for the indigenous people in North- America is Indians. This is because when Columbus discovered Middle- America he believed he had arrived to some islands outside India, therefore he called the indigenous people of America for Indians. This name has from that time to present day been used as a common name of indigenous people in all of America.

There are many different theories about how the Indians arrived at the American continent, but the most accepted one is that they are people from Asia who went from Russia to Alaska over an ice bridge in the Bering Strait, around 60000 to 25000 years ago. At the start they settled down in North-Canada but as more people came and the tribes grew, many Indians had to immigrate south in the country. It didn't take long before all of North and Middle America was inhabited by Indians. The biggest culture differences would be between the North-America tribes and the South-American tribes. Since I will take Indians in the North I will not go more in on this topic.

North America
was a land of enormous natural resources. The forests were filled with animals such as moose, deer, beaver and bear. On the big prairies there was enormous herd of big bison . And the rivers and lakes were filled with fish. A paradise for people who lived of hunting, fishing and gathering from nature. Most of the tribes in North-America were living as nomads . This meant that they were travelling around the country after the condition of food supplies, season of the year and the climate. It were many different tribes with different language and culture, but it was always enough spaces and food for all. Even though it was conflicts between tribes or a tribe moved, it would not have big influence on the pre-Colombian American society.
